One Word Motto for the New Year
I have a favorite radio station, 103.5 based out of Los Angeles, that I listen to on my way to work. The deejay, Ellen K, is uplifting and positive and always gets me in a good mood before facing a long day at work. Recently she suggested an idea: think of one word that would represent your personal goal to work on during the year ahead. I thought this was such an excellent, simple task that I tried it on my class of third graders. I told them the word had to be their own but also something that, in some way, if achieved, could help others. Here's a shortlist of their words: Peace, believe, faith, happy, calm. They wrote their word in bold letters on a 3x5 card, decorated it, and it is on their desk as a reminder of something to work on through the year.
