Lampshades - The English Own It!

The English know a thing or two about lampshades

In my recent search for a lampshade for a bedroom refresh, I soon discovered some of the best lampshades come from across the Pond. Purchasing custom lampshades sight unseen can be risky, so I carefully executed my research.

My final choice came from Melodi Horne of Notting Hill, whose products are hand-made, supporting small cottage industries for resources. Everything is made in England, with fabrics sourced from around the world. Their trademark is tight linen linings with a complementing or contrasting fabric to the shade.

It was fun working with the owner and designer, Melina Braxland-Horne, who gave me many options to combine the perfect shade with a great lamp base. I ended up choosing a custom base where they used my Benjamin Moore paint. Their concept is, “… a lampshade does not need to be neutral and simply functional. It should be a statement piece in any given space; it has the power to create a mood, an ambiance, and color is of paramount importance. “

A lamp stand is a statement piece and is seen as a lady who needs a stunning hat in order to shine from the crowd!

Mixing and Matching….. or Monochromatic

One of the reasons it took me so long to make up my mind about the correct combination of lampshade and lampstand is that there were so many fun and exciting options. Let me know if you agree that it’s hard to choose just one.

I hope your journey in finding a new lampshade or lampstand is as adventurous as mine.
