Fall’s Signature Flavors
Cooler weather calls for the favorite flavors of fall
I think of comfort foods like hearty soups, salads with grilled squash, creamy casseroles, and pumpkin-spiced desserts when I think of fall. We have four great recipes that work well for any craving for the flavors of fall. I’m starting with soup because I like to make it on the weekends when I have some time to tend to simmering and slow cooking. Ina Garten’s Italian Wedding Soup is like drinking liquid gold. The labor is in the meatballs, so I make a double batch and freeze one to throw together this soup even a weeknight. The baby spinach is added at the end, so it stays green and flavorful. I hope you agree that this soup probably is of your top five all-time favorites.
“Instead of going out to dinner, buy good food. Cooking at home shows such affection. In a bad economy, it’s more important to make yourself feel good.”
Butternut Squash Salad by Love and Lemons is a meal in itself and has some of my favorite ingredients like pistachios, pomegranate seeds, and dates.
Cipriani’s is such a classic restaurant in New York City and sadly they haven’t reopened all their locations yet. You can, however, enjoy one of their best-loved dishes at home. Cipriani’s Baked Taglioli with Ham is the ultimate comfort food. I like broiling it at the end to get a little crust on it.
We have lots of ideas for you to ease back into fall. Coming up: Thanksgiving sides.
