Breast Cancer Awareness - Tell a Friend

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is now. It's hard to ignore the pink merchandise lining shelves in stores and the campaigns to help fund research for this deadly disease happening every where. The stats are high: one in 8 women in the United States and one in 1,000 men will develop invasive breast cancer at sometime throughout their lifetime. Prevention is the key, and according to nationalbreastcancer.org, it starts at home with monthly self-exams. Ideally, you should do this ten days after the onset of your menstrual cycle. A doctor's exam is needed if you suspect a lump or any irregularities in your breast tissue. Finally, a mammogram is the best screening for breast cancer. According to this site, mammograms are for, "women over 40 (or mid to late thirties if breast cancer runs in the family because a woman's risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative who has had breast cancer), and patients with an abnormality in the breast. It is not generally recommended to get a mammogram before the age of 35." Spread the word, educate your daughters, support your colleagues and keep in the fight.

My sister lost her fight…

but I’m still in the ring as a survivor of nine years. I feel it is my job to spread the word about awareness any way I can.
